Caffeinated Softworks Comes to the Desktop

Caffeinated Softworks Comes to the Desktop
By Marc Lewis / on 21 Apr, 2026

When I built the Caffeinated suite, I built it because I wanted honest software that I wanted to use, does what it says, respects your data, and stays out of your way. The mobile apps have been live for a while now, and the response has been genuinely encouraging.

Today I’m happy to announce that two of the four apps in the suite are now available for Windows and Linux desktop.

Caffeinated Checkbook for Windows and Linux

Checkbook was the first desktop release, and it’s the one I’m most personally invested in. It’s built specifically for desktop with keyboard shortcuts, fast entry, and the kind of responsiveness that desktop finance software used to have before everything became a web app trying to sell you something or harvest your data. If you’re looking for a simpler alternative to your current finance software, you can export your existing data as a QIF file and import it directly into Checkbook and pick up right where you left off.

No bank connections. No analytics. No ads. Just a notebook that does math.

Caffeinated Notes for Windows and Linux

Notes feels like desktop software should - fast, responsive, and right at home on your computer. It supports rich text, tables with cell-level styling, and multiple notes open in separate windows simultaneously. If you’re coming from Joplin or Synology Notestation, you can import your existing notes directly. Share a URL to it on mobile and it fetches the page content automatically, no middleware required.

Sync Ties It All Together

Both desktop apps sync seamlessly with their mobile counterparts via a Caffeinated Account subscription. Your notes, your transactions, your settings. Everything follows you across your phone, tablet, and desktop automatically. The apps are 100% functional without a subscription on a single device, and sync is available with a 14-day free trial, no credit card required.
